When I started sharing my photos, I didn't know much about Instagram or the AFOL community. I began sharing my creations to preserve my MOCs (My Own Creations) since I don't have many pieces, and after finishing them, I usually take them apart to create something new. That's when Katie (@kt_and_lego) explained how everything worked.
In the AFOL world, hashtags play a significant role. They
are keywords preceded by the '#' symbol and are used to categorize and organize
posts related to LEGO. Hashtags are created by community members themselves and
are used to group similar content. By using them, you can engage in
conversations and showcase your work to a wider audience.
Challenges and contests are an exciting part of the AFOL
experience. Many community members launch thematic challenges or competitions
to encourage creativity. Participating in these events is an excellent way to
test your building skills and connect with other AFOLs. It's important to tag
the people who created the relevant hashtags in your posts so that more people
can discover your content.
Additionally, you also have the option to create your custom
hashtag. This allows you to start your trend or challenge and invite other
AFOLs to participate.
Participating in challenges and contests is a great way to
keep your creativity active, especially on days when you lack ideas for new
MOCs. It's a way to get inspired and connect with fellow LEGO enthusiasts. Now
that you know more about hashtags in the AFOL world, explore, create your own,
and dive into the LEGO community. #AFOL #LEGO #Creativity
And a note about hashtags, brought by Shannon (@shanzy_h): if you capitalise the first letter of each word in them, they become more accessible for screen readers.
She made an Instagram post about it, you can check it here.
